It’s been a while since TW560 was at Ksenotek for servicing.

Since I’m planning to travel to Italy in two weeks, I’d like to ensure that all is in order and I’m not going to remain stranded along some bumpy and remote Italian d-class road.

Also, I’ve received an upgraded set of brake pins – made of stainless steel instead of the usual aluminium. This should fix the intermittent brake pad sticking all TWIKEs experience from time to time.

Here we go!

I’m also getting new tyres front and back – even if they aren’t down to to the usual slicks.

Furthermore, I’m optimising for maximum efficiency: the double ball bearings at the front have been making some light grinding sound for a while now. They have done 160,000km and are well beyond their normal lifecycle, ready for a new set which Andi will replace today.

Now to the special upgrade – new brake pins.

The old pins are indeed difficult to move and have seen way better days. Time to replace them!

After all these years, the surface has corroded and no amount of grease will make them move as freely as they used to – add lots of dirt and salt and get the pins you see below.

The new pins are machined from one piece and should last another 25 years.

After many visits to the Côte d’Azur, I’ve added a new sticker to my TWIKE to add a local touch. 😉

With this, I’m ready for TDI2024!
