Season’s greetings to everyone & thank you for reading this blog in 2015! emissionless.ch/emissionslos.ch has seen its visitor numbers double in 2015 – I’m humbled by the sheer amounts of people reading my musings and following my adventures! 2015 has been a very good year for TW560: Many one-day / multiple-day trips, an epic pan-European adventure and very few technical issues. 2015 was also a good year for electric mobility: it truly entered mainstream media and the collective mind – not only because of the VW-emissions scandal. 8 years ago, with a TWIKE and a Renault Kangoo Electri’CitΓ© everyone thought […]
TW560: Party supplies vehicle!
Who said a TWIKE was unable to carry lots of goods? TWIKEs are exceptionally well adapted to carrying loads! To prove this, I used TW560 to buy some supplies for a (smaller) office party we have every first Thursday of every month. Let’s see how this went, shall we? π Pat (another long-time reader of emissionless.ch), came with me to my local cash’n’carry outlet to buy some supplies in bulk. After placing about half of what we eventually bought on the trolley, Pat was getting increasingly incredulous that we would be able to get everything into my TWIKE. At double […]
Back to normality
After my three-day trip across 6 passes and 3 countries and seeing so many beautiful places I’m back to my every-day commute. Currently, my commute is less fun – Swiss authorities have decided that a perfectly acceptable stretch of road has to be torn up and renewed…adding 25 minutes of daily traffic jam to my commute. Just imagine: The forecasted completion date for 15km of motorway surface renewal is …. beginning of 2019! π Autumn can be very nice around where I live…but doesn’t have to π Can’t wait for some nice days to – maybe – have a last […]
154km – 37,7Wh/km – 41km/h avg.
i’ve always liked hypermiling. back in my petrol-fueled days i’d try to squeeze as many km’s as possible out of any given tank. (my record with our family’s volvo s80 was 1687km) a TWIKE is a very, very light vehicle. consumption is easily affected by small factors – if you’re serious about consumption, you will find plenty of things on your TWIKE to optimize. this is also why twike pilots see their consumption vary by high margins throughout the year. wind, temperatures, tire pressure, weight, rain (…snow), lights etc. can make a large impact on consumption. why? not only is […]
HOT!
Europe’s heat wave has reached Switzerland! Either go to the pool or… go up to 2000+m altitude.
Back to normal – commuting to work
Back to Switzerland after our 2850km trip across northern Europe means going back to work again – I thought i’d take you along on my daily commute to Zurich π I really like driving to work – i can choose from three different options. Today, you’re going to take the fastest one with me. Check out the alps in the background during most of the drive. (Every day they remind me of the wonderful roads waiting for me and TW560!)
how many roberts do *you* need?
i’ve always wanted to somehow visually show the relative energy our legs can contribute to a TWIKE’s ride vs. the 6kW electric motor – and for how long. finally someone has done it in a beautiful and entertaining way! enjoy…and be sure to answer the question at the end of the video!
clear communication
i love bumper stickers! they are perfect to convey political messages, affiliations or hobbies. not really a thing in europe, i really like the choice available online. for many years i had my trusted “hybrids are for pussies”-sticker, which i got from a SUV-drivers’ association page. classic! but there is a twist: since a twike, technically, *is* a hybrid, the sticker might be just a little bit misleading. since my rim failure last year and subsequent repair attempts (…and bringing everything back to its former glory) tw560 was on the road without any stickers, since i had to replace the […]
on my recent visit to the us of a: hmm…
a recent business trip took me to california’s silicon valley. this entry consists of the bits and bobs i saw, heard and thought about during the 5 days i spent in america. since everyone in the us has to be hyped, pumped and ready for the fun, i thought it would be a good idea to blend in and get a fitting picture taken for my visitor badge! for me (and probably most europeans for that matter), america remains a puzzling place. nsa revelations and all the cyber defense babble (which was, after all, why i was visiting) aside, the […]
