One of my first little EV adventures of 2025 with the TW560 was a quick day trip to the Black Forest.

If you’ve ever spent winter (October to March) in the lower parts of Switzerland, you know the struggle—weeks of thick, soupy fog that just doesn’t go away. After five sunless weeks, your brain starts to feel like it’s running in low-power mode.

Luckily, the Black Forest is just around the corner from me—well, 40 minutes away—and since it climbs up to 1600 meters, it guarantees me seeing some sun!

Climbing out of the grey and into a clear, sunny winter afternoon really makes an impact.

Add to that an unlimited international SIM, a laptop, and some cozy Glühwein during video calls, and suddenly remote work from Germany is real fun!

This post comes with a video that really shows how intense the fog situation can get. You’ll see me cruising down from about 1000 meters above sea level to 400m, going from blue skies into the thick of the grey soup.

I’ve also marked a few highlights in the video for you. I managed to regen about 800 Wh on the way down. Insert my EV Grin whole way – Enjoy the ride!

0:19 – Fog creeping up into the Black Forest valleys

1:30 – You can really see how far the fog stretches—from Austria all the way to France

2:05 – The plume from the nuclear power plant punches right through the fog

2:32 – Fog line drops to around 100m above sea level and it’s closing in

3:50 – Leveling out right at the height of the power plant plume

4:20 – Entering the fog… say goodbye to the sun!

5:00 – Thick fog now, full immersion mode

9:35 – Starting the final descent

9:58 – Rolling descent begins

10:21 – Cruising at max allowed speed while coasting

10:32 – Kicking in the regen with negative cruise control (love that feature)

11:08 – 90 km/h

11:42 – 95 km/h and pulling full recuperation!

12:11 – Dropping below the fog layer at last

12:36 – And nope, we don’t need that emergency rescue lane! 😉

12:51 – 87 km/h GPS speed, regen amps flowing in

13:20 – Regen maxed out—battery loving it

13:48 – Rolling into Waldshut

14:40 – Taking a right turn and heading home
